Last week HANYS met with returning and newly elected members of Congress to advocate for New York hospitals and health systems and policies to advance the health of New Yorkers and their communities. Thank you to Sen. Schumer and Reps. Garbarino, Gillen, LaLota, Langworthy, Latimer, Lawler, Malliotakis, Mannion, Riley and Suozzi for their leadership!

The joint legislative budget hearing on healthcare will take place on Feb. 11, starting at 9:30 a.m. HANYS will provide testimony on provisions in the governor’s SFY 2025-2026 executive budget and our broader priorities. Members can read our Jan. 22 Member Update for details on the executive budget’s proposed healthcare measures.

This week the following bills passed both houses: 

• Medication abortion drug labeling (A.2145-A/S.36-A)
• New York health information privacy act (A.2141/S.929)

CMS seeks an additional 10 hospitals to participate in the Rural Community Hospital Demonstration program. Applications are due March 1 for the program, which tests cost-based reimbursement for Medicare inpatient services for certain small rural hospitals with fewer than 51 beds that do not qualify as Critical Access Hospitals.
