New HANYS-supported bill would preserve hospital Medicaid DSH caps
This week, Reps. Nick LaLota (R-NY), Yvette Clarke (D-NY), Larry Bucshon (R-IN), Doris Matsui (D-CA), Mike Lawler (R-NY) and Frank Mrvan (D-IN) introduced H.R. 9351, the Save our Safety-Net Hospitals Act. The bill would amend Sec. 203 of the Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2021 to allow hospitals to count dual eligibles and other patients with 3rd party payers in their individual DSH caps. HANYS supports this legislation which would prevent catastrophic cuts to many of New York’s public hospitals and urges impacted members to use our fact sheet to help in your advocacy.
FEMA implements Immediate Needs Funding
As of Aug. 7, the Federal Emergency Management Agency will prioritize response and recovery efforts from the Disaster Relief Fund to address lifesaving and life-sustaining activities only As a result, FEMA will pause all new obligations for applications for public assistance. The agency will continue to accept and process applications, such as those reimbursing hospitals for COVID-19, or past natural disaster-related expenses.
