Catholic Health’s (Long Island) Dr. Patrick O’Shaughnessy earns 2023 Grassroots Champion Award
In partnership with HANYS, the American Hospital Association presented its 2023 New York state Grassroots Champion Award to Patrick O’Shaughnessy, DO, MBA, FACEP, CHCQM, in recognition of his effective and persistent advocacy for New York hospitals and health systems. Dr. O’Shaughnessy is president and CEO of Catholic Health (Long Island).
O’Shaughnessy has been a consistent leader, relaying to Congress the critical role hospitals play in their communities and building strong bipartisan champions for HANYS and AHA priorities. Always ready to answer the advocacy call to action, O’Shaughnessy has partnered with HANYS to engage lawmakers on federal priorities like site-neutral payments, Medicare reimbursement and workforce development.

AHA’s Grassroots Champion Award recognizes hospital leaders who most effectively educate elected officials on how major issues affect the hospital’s vital role in the community, have done an exemplary job in broadening the base of community support for the hospital and are tireless advocates for hospitals and patients. The award is presented annually to one individual from each state.
