HANYS’ report highlights 2022 accomplishments
From state and federal advocacy to education, analysis and more — HANYS is proud of the work we did in 2022 on behalf of New York's healthcare providers and the communities they serve. This statewide report and video highlight some of our work on behalf of our members. We look forward to continuing our work in 2023!
HANYS, HTNYS announce 2023 board chair, officers and executive committee members
HANYS welcomes Jose Acevedo, MD, president and CEO, Finger Lakes Health, as HANYS’ 2023 board of trustees chair and congratulates Susan Holliday, trustee, UR Medicine, on her second term as chair of the HTNYS board of governors. Announcements and further details for HTNYS and HANYS are available online.
HANYS awards diversity and inclusion leadership development scholarships
As part of HANYS’ ongoing effort to improve health equity and with support from The Milbank Foundation, scholarships were awarded to Ingrid Collymore, MSN, RN, CCM, Catholic Health (Long Island), and Amy Faith Lionheart, MA, MBA, Nuvance Health. Congratulations to both awardees!
State legislative activity update
As the 2023 legislative session opened Wednesday, Gov. Kathy Hochul had acted on most, but not all, bills that passed both houses of the Legislature in 2022. Status updates on all 2022 legislation of interest is available to HANYS members in our end-of-session summary chart.

Spotlight on Northern Westchester Hospital
Creating an infrastructure to monitor Magnet® quality metrics and implement action plans helped them achieve re-designation as a Magnet organization. They were recognized for nurse satisfaction, inpatient and ambulatory nursing-sensitive indicators, patient satisfaction and using technology and innovation to deliver culturally and socially sensitive care. As 118th Congress convenes, leadership is undetermined
Despite multiple votes since convening in Washington this week, the House of Representatives has yet to elect a Speaker. Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) remains the leading candidate in the republican-controlled House, but has been unable to secure the necessary support. Absent a Speaker, House members-elect can’t be sworn into office, committees can’t organize and legislative work is stalled. Senate Majority Leader Schumer will continue to lead the Senate with a narrow majority of 51 democrats and 49 republicans.
DFS extends COVID-19 test cost-sharing waiver
The emergency regulation waives cost-sharing through March 6. In-network laboratory tests to diagnose and accompanying provider visits are exempt from patient cost-sharing responsibilities. New York insurers are required to pay providers for the copayments, coinsurance or any deductibles that would otherwise be the patient’s responsibility.
