HANYS series to focus on prevention, response to aggressive patient behavior
Upcoming sessions in the virtual series will address advanced strategies for a coordinated response, partnering with law enforcement and streamlining investigations. Recordings from prior sessions are available to watch anytime online.
HANYS urges Congress to stop Medicare sequestration cuts
In a letter to the New York congressional delegation, HANYS urged Congress to intervene to prevent deepening Medicare sequestration cuts from taking full effect. We encourage hospitals and health systems to use our Federal Legislative Tracker and weigh in with their members of Congress to keep this issue top of mind for lawmakers as full implementation of the sequestration cuts looms.
State legislative activity
The 2022 New York state legislative session has drawn to a close. Since the start of this year’s session, 1,007 bills passed both houses; 214 have been signed into law and 793 remain to be delivered and acted upon by the governor by Dec. 31. Please see our summary chart for a complete list of bills of interest that have passed both houses during the 2022 legislative session. HANYS members will soon receive a more comprehensive summary of bills, including the status of legislation that did not pass both houses.
Schumer urges CMS to protect Critical Access Hospitals
In a recent letter, U.S. Senate Majority Leader Schumer asked CMS to revise problematic sub-regulatory guidance issued in 2015 to protect Critical Access Hospitals across the country, including nine in New York state. HANYS has worked closely with Leader Schumer, Rep. Stefanik, former Rep. Delgado and others in the New York delegation and continues to push to correct this damaging policy.

Spotlight on Long Island Jewish Forest Hills
To address language barriers among their diverse patient population, they promoted the use of a video-assisted interpreter tool which allows nurses and other staff to communicate in real-time with patients in their native language. Learn more in our Member Spotlight.
Community benefit analyses help boards become advocates
