Biden unveils healthcare proposals

The president proposed expansive nursing home reforms, strategies to address the mental health crisis and efforts to advance health equity across the country  in conjunction with his State of the Union address. The president also outlined his COVID-19 response plan to protect against and treat COVID-19, prepare for new variants, avoid shutdowns and fight the virus abroad.

The following chapter amendments were signed into law: 

  • Health equity impact assessment/Certificate of Need application (Chapter 137 of the Laws of 2022) 
  • Antimicrobial stewardship programs (Chapter 83 of the Laws of 2022) 
  • Comprehensive Insurance Disclosure Act amendment (Chapter 136 of the Laws of 2022) 
  • Medicaid coverage for mental health counselors and marriage and family therapists (Chapter 97 of the Laws of 2022) 
  • Essential support person for hospitalized individuals (Chapter 42 of the Laws of 2022) 
  • Reporting on excessive alcohol consumption and opioid overuse data (Chapter 113 of the Laws of 2022) 
  • Air ambulance services (Chapter 61 of the Laws of 2022) 
  • Screening newborns for genetic disorders (Chapter 70 of the Laws of 2022) 
  • Midwifery birth centers (Chapter 127 of the Laws of 2022) 
  • Reimagining long-term care task force (Chapter 103 of the Laws of 2022) 
  • Study on medical care during COVID-19 pandemic (Chapter 122 of the Laws of 2022)
