HANYS/MLMIC: Beyond the Behavioral Health Unit: Managing Mental Health
Noon - 1 p.m.
Meeting the mental health needs of patients is an integral part of healthcare, regardless of the practice location. A patient’s mental health needs may be overlooked or difficult to identify in hectic environments such as the emergency department or ambulatory care settings.
Join HANYS and MLMIC for a 60-minute webinar that will explore the mental health needs of patients in the emergency department, the general inpatient unit and the ambulatory care setting. We will offer strategies to mitigate risks associated with these needs and discuss an analysis of the factors that impact claims of medical malpractice.
We will also examine the mental health needs of both patients and healthcare professionals as we continue to navigate the COVID-19 pandemic.
At the end of this presentation, participants will be able to:
- assess professional liability risks in clinical areas outside of behavioral health units;
- recognize the factors that impact claims of medical malpractice;
- evaluate the effect of COVID-19 on patients and healthcare professionals; and
- create risk management strategies to promote staff and patient safety.
Speakers:
Mark Ambrose and Anne Heintz, risk management consultants, MLMIC
Target Audience: Risk managers, behavioral health directors, quality improvement managers, medical directors, office practice administrators/managers, nurse administrators, patient safety officers, healthcare counsel, CEOs and chief operating officers.
