HANYS health equity initiative identifies three New York state target regions; kicks off “We Ask Because We Care” webinar series June 8
HANYS’ Advancing Healthcare Excellence and Inclusion initiative to focus on the North Country, Mohawk/Hudson Valley and downstate (Bronx and Queens) regions while offering education to hospitals and health systems statewide.
RENSSELAER, NY — The Healthcare Association of New York State will be engaged in targeted health equity work in the North Country, Mohawk/Hudson Valley and downstate (Bronx and Queens) regions under its Mother Cabrini Health Foundation grant-funded initiative, Advancing Healthcare Excellence and Inclusion. AHEI’s first educational series will begin June 8.
HANYS’ health equity-focused learning collaborative launched earlier this year. Through AHEI, HANYS will provide education and support to hospitals in the target regions to identify and address healthcare disparities, strengthen collaboration with community partners and execute local health equity priorities.
HANYS leveraged social risk data from its partner Socially Determined, then layered on Medicare outcomes, patient experience and other qualitative data sources to select the three targeted communities.
Enrolled hospital partners in the target regions will receive dedicated project manager assistance, data analytics, marketing and communication materials, and coaching from experts in health equity, change management, hospital operations and coalition building throughout 2022.
While HANYS’ tailored technical assistance will be limited to the target regions, AHEI’s virtual learning sessions will be open to all HANYS members statewide.
We Ask Because We Care series starts Wednesday, June 8
AHEI's six-part We Ask Because We Care webinar series will be led by Julia E. Iyasere, MD, MBA, executive director, Dalio Center for Health Justice, NewYork-Presbyterian.
We Ask Because We Care is a nationally recognized campaign designed to improve the accuracy and completion of patient demographic data collection while cultivating community understanding of how hospitals use race, ethnicity, language and/or social determinants of health data to inform patient care and improve health outcomes. Sessions will highlight how hospitals and health systems that implement We Ask Because We Care can deepen their understanding of systemic inequities, expand cultural awareness and engage with local communities to learn how best to serve them.
The June 8 session will focus on building the foundation for equitable care. Interested individuals from HANYS’ member hospitals and health systems are invited to learn more about and register for this learning series. Additional AHEI virtual programming will take place in fall 2022.
