Critical Care is a high impact area where system and clinical improvements can have a significant effect on patient outcomes, safety, efficiency, cost, and compliance with Medicare and other forthcoming P4P programs. - IHI Launches The 5 Million Lives Campaign - Press Release - December 12, 2006: The Institute for Healthcare Improvement has announced its new two-year campaign that focuses on protecting patients from harm. The five million target, set for December 2008, combines six new initiatives with the 100k Lives initiatives.
 | - HANYS IHI 100k Lives Campaign Educational Series: Member hospitals are provided with six CDs (desktop) and six DVDs (presentation), one each per initiative, and an instructional guide. New York State providers will be able to receive one continuing education credit hour (C.M.E., C.N.E., C.P.H.Q. ACHE II) for each program until October 1, 2008.
| - New York State Hospitals Exceed IHI 100k Lives Campaign June 2006 Target: The IHI 100,000 Lives Campaign achieved its milestone on June 14, 2006 by eclipsing its national goal and saving an estimated 122,000 lives. New York State also exceeded its goal for lives saved by 15%, with an estimated 6,318 lives saved and a 95th percentile confidence interval of 5,808 and 6,828 and a standard deviation of only +/- 260 lives.
